943 quit moving suddenly
Using my 943 and it like a light just quit moving. I noticed hydro oil and believe the charge pump line is busted. Not sure haven't dug in deep yet. If this hose is busted how much trouble is it to change? And if it is the hose would that make it quit moving suddenly. This thing needs to be making money and not costing me.

955l , 85j
If this is not permitted mods delete it. I know of a 955L , 85J prefix that a local guy here in central ky has to sale. I know nothing about it but can look at it and get picks if someone is interested. Its maybe 2 miles from me. He said with "said " being from the owner , it has a 90% u/c and it runs out well. If someone has interest let me know and I'll check it out for you and get pics.

Cat 973 wont move
Hi all. It has been a while since I posted here. Anyway after much work need assistance on a problem I am having. I purchased a cat 973 s/n 86G
which was sold because it would not move. We have been troubleshooting and have now found out we are unable to get charge pump pressure to the brakes. We ran a line from charge pressure test point to the brake line directly and then the machine moves only in front. We have change filter, using SAE10. We took out the spool valves in the main control valve and cleaned, eventhough looked OK. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cat 951 Transmission Rebuild Advice
I have a 1970 Cat 951 that has been sitting inside since 1998 waiting on me to get the nerve up to rebuild the transmission. I'm now at a point of either tackling this project or scrapping the machine. Engine starts easily and does not smoke, loader with 4 in 1 bucket raises and lowers fine, and there are very few leaks. When I parked the machine, 2nd gear was out forward and reverse, but everything else worked fine. Now, there is no movement and I'm not sure where to start.
Anybody out there have experience with transmission removal and rebuild? From the manuals, it looks like bottom removal is the best alternative.
Any guidance would be most appreciated.
Are there any free lance mechanics out there in the Northern Delaware area that might like to either help me or tackle this project?

New Holland track loader problems for repair
I have a 2006 New Holland LT185.b or sometimes listed as LT185B skid steer compact track loader. This machine has about 1,550 hours on it and has not been rebuilt at all, as far as I know. I bought it from a shifty eyed dealer for $19,500 last year, with 1,350 hours on the meter. It operated fine when I test operated it, but I did not have a chance to use a blade on it to use the front auxiliary hydraulics (my lesson learned). This is my first machine and I bought it to maintain my small ranch in western CO.
Six problems:
1. It started making a grinding or clanking noise when going in reverse sometimes. I know the front right idler wheel is noisy and slightly loose acting so it's likely wearing out. It sounds/feels like the reverse noise may be on the right side as well. And it seems to only do it if I go into reverse after spinning the machine in a tight area.
The same right hand track also loosens frequently so I have to refill the hydraulic grease tensioner on it every 40 hours or so.
I hope the noise is just the front idler wheel, maybe rear one too, but is the intermittent reverse noise sometimes anything else, like the drive motor, gears, or other more costly parts?
2. When I operate my CAT grading blade the machine acts like it wants to stall when I use the tilt functions. It doesn't stall completely but acts like something is governing it while I tilt the blade to cut. One guy told me to turn off the high flow function but there does not seem to be that option to turn it off. He thought maybe the high flow was trying to push to much oil through the blade, and said the blade doesn't need high flow volume.
My friend seems to think it's some kind of safety mechanism but I can't find references online or in the overpriced $400 near-useless manual I bought from a New Holland parts dealer to either suggestion. Anyone else know cause or experienced this?
3. The rig cranks and runs fine upon cold start but once it heats up it begins to have a miss and blows a little black smoke, as in unburnt fuel. It does not burn/leak any motor oil at all. Or any other motor fluids. Archoil diesel fuel additive seems to help it not miss as frequently but it still does the smoking. Archoil is very expensive and I don't want to use it forever.
Any ideas to cause?
4. The hour meter reset at about 1,450 hours for no reason I know of. I was in the middle of using it lightly when it did this. It had no other abnormal electrical symptoms at the time. It makes me wonder if the machine actually has 2,900-ish (or more) hours on it because it seemed (by cosmetic wear and tear) to have more than 1,350 hours on it (when purchase). Dealer said it was a trade in from a friend he has that owns a gravel pit. Anyone have this happen and fix it?
5. The machine has high and low speed gears. When I operate it in high gear for more than a 1,000 feet or so to move it around my ranch it blows a fuse for some reason. So I usually leave it in low and it never blows the fuse. Anyone else experience and solve this?
6. I loose about 3 quarts of hydraulic oil every 6-8 hours. It ends up pooling in the bottom of the machine and leaking out of drains when I drive it around. I'm wondering if the plastic reservoir that holds about 25 quarts is cracked or if there is a line connection/hose loose. I haven't been able to identify the leak source because it gets so filthy under there. I thought about putting a dye or something in the oil to try to isolate it but I haven't found any dye that will do this and react to black light or whatever. Any suggestions?
Thanks much! I've learned not to trust resale dealers and to completely run the machine for a couple of hours at least...next time. I'm pretty sure he knew it had all these issues because the price seemed too good to be true at $19,500 and 1,350 hours. All others were selling for upwards of $29,000 with similar hours and age.

Injector Pump question
Hello guys,
I recently posted about trying to help a friend get a 977L up and running, and people have told him there's issues with the fuel system, I haven't had a chance to diagnose it myself yet... The machine in question's engine Serial number is 3N6755 or maybe 3N67557 (hard to tell from the picture I got if there's another digit there, but if there is it could be a 7), Arrangement number 4N7373, unfortunately I don't have a serial number for the tractor itself... I've just found a guy local to where I am who is parting out a D7G and I could get the entire injector pump assembly for a good price, but I have no idea if they could be interchanged from the D7G to the 977L, and was hoping somebody could help me out. The donor machine's Serial number is 92V8462, and the engine serial number is 3N87680, arrangement # 7N1552.
Thanks guys!

Back Killer 963C
Just finished a nightmare job on this stinky garbage pig of a 963C, 6 out of 12 manifold bolts broke flush with the head, manifold was warped close to 1/8" from being run so long, soot everywhere! Luckily I only had to drill out one stubborn bolt, all others came with an ez out, which was good as there was no welding or heating possible unless I spent a day dropping pans/washing (I'm not to fond of having to wash landfill machines...) My back is telling me i'm not a contortionist but you damn well need to be when crammed into a 963C!

931 leaking roller
One of the rollers on my 931 is leaking. Took it off and it is manufactured by Simmel. Could not find any information on them. Roller itself is good but has a little slop between bushing and shaft. I don't know how much is too much to reseal. I don't use loader for over 100 hours in a year. How long would it last if I filled roller with grease. I am 70 years old so longer than me?

Learning to service 'New to me 1993 Caterpillar 935CII'
Learning to service new to me 1993 Caterpillar 935CII
Hello and thank you for all the help you guys previously provided me when I was searching for a track loader. I finally bought one several months ago, but before I use it I am going over the best I can. And I have the operators manual which does show me how to perform routine maintenance, as well as a parts book for the machine.
Starting with the final drives I removed the left side check plug and thankfully clear fluid ran out,
So on to the right side. Here my first problem begins. I noticed that the ¾ OD plug with an internal ½ drive was rough looking, and much to my disappointment it will not budge. I only had a ½ impact gun and the plug was too rounded for the ½ extension to get any bite.
So I began to try to chisel it loose with a punch. The plug is fairly soft and I made a flat spot where I can get a solid hit with the punch but that flat spot keeps moving but the plug will not budge.
I did try to heat with a small held torch and randomly squirted with cold water to cool rapidly before continuing to strike with punch it but still no progress.
Of course the entire time I used a good amount of PBblaster.
And I have used my air chisel to pound on the center of plug with pointed bit, but I did not think to use the air chisel to strike the edge to attempt to turn the plug.
I have a larger torch I could use a rose bud on a get it hotter, but I am not sure if that will cause any damage to internal parts.
And I am prepared to drill out if that is what you guys suggest.
Finally the Cat dealer says the part is ¾ straight thread. Will a pipe thread tap work to clean up threads afterward?
Thank You
Johnny Walker

257b3 Cat oil change concerns
I have a 2010 Cat 257b3. Was doing an oil change (my first on it) and filled with 2.4 gallons of oil (as callen for by the manual). It barely showed on the dipstick. I have now put 3 gallons of oil in it and it shows about midway between safe and full on the dipstick. I drained out about 2 3/4 gallons of oil at the start and I know it was not over filled to begin with. Is there a possibility I have a larger than normal oil pan? I purchased the skid steel used so have no idea if anything like this was changed out. Or maybe Cat changed part way through the year? I have looked it over and am not seeing any leaks and I am also on a level floor.
