Hi All
I hope i can pick a few brains out there as i need some input ,i have just bought a John deer 855 crawler .That was my first mistake ,not checking it over properly.
Don't know if anyone is familiar with them here but it's worth asking as i don't really have a good idea myself.
Going through the oil levels it is a nightmare, everything is low hydraulic transmission finals werent too bad though. But there is where the problem is.
I found the R hand side final drive has some amount of slopp in it,i'd say around 5 mm maybe, hard to measure it and all that. These systmes are a hydrostatic drive which i am new to .
I noticed the slop after changing out a sproket and while using a bar and spanner on the bolts is raised some,i imediately drained the finals and the RhS has metal in ,its kinda fine and larger particles.I am floored pretty much after seeing this...all i can imagine is the worst case scenario,it will fail..while i hav'nt checked for slop on the other side the oil has very fine amounts of metal in it,it looks not too bad i hope.
My question is as i will post a pic of the oil contamination is what am i in for here, any opinion in general i couldnt thank you enough for.It scares me to have to rebuild it as im about to go build a small couple of dams with it for kicks. It wont be working hard but still..I have only driven it into the yard and noticed no noice from the finals ,and pretty much shaking my head at this point.the parts availablity scares me and the prices even more so.
Also where the final drive can move on the transmission does taht mean the tranny is worn or the final drive ?
Apreciate the help
